Pulse Picnic – First Worksheets

Learning rhythm the way we learn language.

Done is better than perfect — so without further ado, here are some additional files to get you started on your PulsePicnic adventure. There are two patterns to clap, the associated audio files (my voice overlay will be added soon), and your student’s first 12/8 piece (to be taught by rote). To come soon: The 12/8 piece in the manner of a Primer Pre-staff method book.

Below are two audio files to go with the worksheet. In each case their are two measures lead-in, followed immediately with the rhythmic pattern itself.

Finally, here’s a piece to teach your student by rote. You may recognize the teacher’s accompaniment part! Play it as a duet, then point out to your student that this piece sounds like “Hickory Dickory”, not like “Yankee Doodle”. Contrast it by playing just about anything from your Primer method book written in Simple meter.
